The Genoa-Kingston Drama Department presents this year’s spring musical, The Addams Family, in the auditorium this weekend. Shows are Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday, March 18 matinee at 2:00 p.m. America's darkest family comes to life in this original musical comedy about love, family, honesty and growing up. Everything will change for Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Grandma, Fester and Lurch on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Tickets are seven dollars for adults and five dollars for students and are available at the door.

Sophomore Class Fundraiser:  Portillo's Fundraiser on March 7th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  The flyer is attached must be presented.

Sophomore Class Fundraiser: Trivia Night on March 9th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  The flyer is attached below with more information and sign up forms. This event will be fully ran by the Sophomores themselves at GKHS.  


The semester 2 food NHS drive will run Monday, March 19 through Friday, March 23. The week of the food drive, starting on Monday the 19th, students will be able to turn in items in to Student Services from 7:30AM - 7:50AM each morning. If needed or if students have late arrival, we will also collect items throughout the day. When students submit items, they will receive an extra credit coupon to turn in to you for the specific amount of extra credit points they have earned.

Students chosen for induction into NHS, the first inductees meeting is this Thursday, February 15 at 7:15AM in the LRC. Attendance at this meeting is mandatory in preparation for the upcoming induction ceremony.

Any student who is currently 18 or who will be 18 on or before March 20, 2018 can register to vote here at GKHS. All that is needed are two forms of ID with one being your IL Driver's License or State ID the second anything else with your name on it (student ID, bank statement etc). The process takes less than 5 minutes. Bring your IDs to guidance and see Ms. Miranda who can help facilitate the process. The last date to register at GKHS before the upcoming March 20, 2018 election is Feb. 20, 2018.

Attention students taking an Apex Course:  The Apex deadline for completion is Monday, Dec. 18th.  In order for you to receive credit, your work must be done and you must be at a passing level no later than 3pm on Dec. 18th.  


Final Exam Make Up forms are due no later than Dec. 14th for any student who will be out of town during Finals.  Final Exam make ups are Saturday, Dec. 16th at 8am.

General Guidelines for final exams:

1.  Students may not take final exams early unless they have an approved form signed by a parent and the principal.  Being out of town with family is generally the only approved reason for a make up exam time.

2.  Students may not take final exams after the winter break.

3.  Students have to stay for the entire period during their final exam.

4.  If a student does not have a final exam for a particular class, they do not have to attend that period.

5.  We run a few buses to downtown Kingston and downtown Genoa around noon each day of the final exams.  Otherwise buses run as normal beginning at 3pm.

6.  All students are expected to be in class during review time, even if they are exempt from finals.

DCP/SAFE will be collecting old t-shirts, jeans, and khakis from 12/11 through 12/15 in order to make dog toys for local animal shelters.  Donations will be collected before school. Each donation will receive an entry into a raffle for a prize.


DCP safe will be hosting a dodgeball tournament during AE after winter break. To participate, you can sign up by bringing in 2 winter clothing items (mittens, hats, scarves) To watch the tournament, you will need to bring in 1 item.


The tournament will consists of teams of 10 students.  Sign up as a team or as an individual to be placed on a team.  Sign up and collection will take place from December 11th- 22nd in Mr. Owen’s room and during lunches.  You must turn in your donation at time of signup

All library books are due 12/18. Grades will be blocked if you haven't turned in your book by this point. Books can be taken home over break, but you notify Ms. Wilkins and renew them by 12/18.


There will be an Impact Club meeting in the LC during AE on 12/5.


There's still time to donate to the Impact Club toy drive until 12/15!

Come to Culver's on Wednesday, 12/13 from 5-8 and help the Impact Club raise money for The Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association. Please see Ms. Wilkins for a flyer, which you need to present at the fundraiser.


Prom committee will meet during AE in the LC on Tuesday, 12/12/.


FOOD DRIVE will take place the week of November 27th - December 1st.  Food items will be collected in student services between 7:30 am and 7:50 am

The Impact Club is collecting home-made holiday cards to bring to the residents of The Grand Victorian assisted living community to help spread holiday cheer. Please drop them off in the LC before Thursday, 12/14.


We are also collecting new toys through 12/15 to donate to families in need. Please drop off donations in the LC.


Finals care packs are on sale through 12/1. All proceeds benefit the prom committee.

  • The GKHS Drama Department will be performing two one-acts plays this fall:

  • The shows are Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday, November 5 show at 2:00 p.m.

  • Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.

The Senior class portrait for the yearbook will be taken during Cogs Connection on Tuesday Oct. 10th during Cogs Connection. Seniors will be called down at 9:15 and will meet in the gym for this picture.


Club and Group Pictures will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 25th after school from 1:45 - 3:30 in the auditorium. Meet in the commons. There will be a schedule of groups and times coming soon, and it will be posted outside of the auditorium in advance. If you want to be featured in your club/group's photo for the yearbook, you must attend on this date during your designated time-frame. Make any necessary transportation arrangements.

Chromebooks have been distributed to students.  Attached are the two insurance forms. One form is for Lenovo's (soph), and the other is for HP's (Fr, Jr, Sr).  Please keep in mind that we partner with this company to provide insurance opportunities to our families, but they are separate from the school.  We are not involved at all in the processing of claims.
