Meriwether Lewis was born in Virginia on August 18, 1774. He joined the army in 1794. He and William Clark decided to go on an expedition through the Missouri River to Oregon.
William Clark was born on August 1, 1770. He was born in the same area as Meriwether Lewis. When he was 19 he began to join the Kentucky Militia. The expedition was mainly to commercial the development of unexplored territory as William Clark put it.
Sergeant Nathaniel Pryor was born in 1772. He moved to Kentucky with his parents in 1783,where he lived until 20 years later when he joined the expedition.
Sergeant John Ordway was a soldier from New Hampshire. He was a commander to the group when Lewis and Clark were out. He took care of records and registers.
Sergeant Patrick Gass was born in Pennsylvania on June 12,1771. He served Russel Bissell's Army in the Illinois Territory.
Sergeant Charles Floyd was born in Kentucky. He was in the expedition from May 14 to August 18 and died on August 20.
