It took Lewis and Clark’s group 18 days to go through the
state of Washington. William Clark made a map of the places they visited. On
November 18 19 and 20, 1805, William Clark was accompanied by 10 men, and made
an excursion to the Pacific Ocean. They explored a 4 mile stretch of the long
beach beaches. Trading ships arrived so frequently that many Chinook could
speak and understand English. 200 years ago the Chinook river was home of the
California Condor. On November 24 they were faced with two challenges: built
houses in the cold or stay near the ocean.
