Naval Events in the Civil War

The North mainly controlled the naval part of the Civil. The North made a blockade to stop the South's trade. Still there was a ship that could get through though it, the Blockade Runner.

Then later in the war the South made a new steamship called the
Virginia. Covered by metal, it was described by a Union soldier as "half sunk in the water." It could sink a wooden war ship while taking only minimal damage.

Luckily the North had built an
ironclad earlier in the war so they now could fight off the Virginia. It was called the Monitor. Ironclad ships being built brought about a revolution in navies.
