WHY THE CIVIL WAR

STARTED

The Civil War began in 1861 and ended in 1865. There are many, many reasons that the Civil War might have started.

One of the reasons is said to be because Abe Lincoln was elected as president that year and some people had very strong feelings about him.

Another reason for the Civil War was slavery. Many people were against that too, mostly the North. The North and South were having disagreements already, but this made it worse.

People also thought the federal government had too much power. Some wanted most of the power to be with the states.
