Abigail Adams was born in Massachusetts in 1744. She was not educated in school . She was educated in her home by her parents. At a very young age she  read almost all the classic writings of Europe. She taught herself how to speak French.

She was one of the great letter writers of all. In 1764 she married a man named John Adams. They had five kids together. Abigail is important because she stood up for the rights of the women, and for the African Americans too. Abigail died in 1818.
