Jews and the Holocaust

The period of persecution and extermination of European Jews by Nazi Germany forced a lot of people to move from their home lands to concentration camps. Some Jewish people were able to escape to the U.S. and other safe countries.

Persecution of German Jews began with Hitler's rise to power in 1933. Jewish businessmen lost their businesses. Some, like Anne Frank's family went into hiding.

Jewish people in concentration camps worked with little food and drink. They were forced to wear prison types of uniforms.
