Academic Bowl
|
Genoa-Kingston High School's Academic Bowl Squad is coached by Mrs. Fruit and Mrs. McPheeters. Though competitions usually do not commence until January of the new year, it is of the opinion of past participants that earlier practices will help new competitors become familiar with the concept of an Academic Bowl match. Another goal for the 2010-2011 school year is to consider new team shirts that students can wear at competitions and also to raise awareness about this fantastic program. A typical match consists of a team of five students from our squad competing against a team of five students from another school in two rounds of twenty four questions. Categories range from English, Algebra, and Biology, to Music, Sports, and History. Twenty-four questions are asked as “toss-ups” with individuals from each school buzzing in to provide the answer. The fastest correct answer gets ten points and that school goes on to a series of bonuses that the other squad can steal if incorrect. As you can see it is easy to pick up quickly. This year we need a lot of new faces with a varied knowledge base to succeed. Were looking forward to a great season. If you’d like to be a part of this unique program, contact Varsity Coach McPheeters or JV Coach Fruit. |
