Student Council

GKHS Student Council
Genoa-Kingston High School Student Council is an organization open to all current high school students in good academic standing who wish to develop leadership skills and be involved in planning school and community events.  Students are required to submit petitions signed by staff members and classmates who support their candidacy for Student Council.  They are then elected by the student body.  
Student Council runs on a point system.  The Parliamentarian keeps a record throughout the year of member participation and involvement in Council activities.  Any student not meeting the minimum requirements of participation will be removed from Student Council.  
Student Council holds mandatory weekly meetings which all members are to attend.  Meetings will be on Wednesdays through Sept. 14, 2011.  After that date, meetings will be every Tuesday during AE in Room 412/Lab 410.
GKHS Student Council is a member of the North Central District (NCD) and the Illinois Association of Student Councils (IASC).  Through these organizations, members may participate in workshops, student exchanges, and overnight retreats in which they learn leadership skills and gather ideas for improvement of council functions.

Homecoming:
Spirit Week
Window Painting
Float Building
Coronation
Parade
Dance

Blood Drives—hosted twice a year (fall and spring)

Basketball Concessions—alternating with Junior Class to provide concessions at home games

Mr. GK—a pageant for senior males held in the spring

Class Fundraising—done by each individual class and its officers and advisors

Spring Dance

Community Service: volunteering at nursing homes, Cogs 4 the Cure fundraising football game,

Student Council Scholarship—a monetary scholarship awarded to outstanding Council members to be used for higher education expenses
