We Need School Libraries!:

Times are tough and both public and school libraries are taking a hit. The first

link below provides access to a map of cities across the nation that don't have

school libraries. It's titled "A Nation without School Libraries". This is a great

disservice to communities. Imagine if our district's school libraries closed their

doors and students and staff were left without the support and resources

 upon which they

depend. In some schools, it's happening. Libraries promote literacy, a lifelong

love of reading and learning, and the ability to find information ethically in

a constantly changing digital world. Please support your local and school

libraries and make sure our doors stay open!

On a Lighter Note:

Libraries Will Survive!

Below is a link to a video made by public librarians, in which they sing about

their budget crises while conveying that libraries will survive as long as

patrons keep coming back to us! Check it out. . . .

Prairie Area Library System (PALS)

Genoa-Kingston High School is a member of the Prairie

Area Library System or PALS. PALS staff members manage

 PrairieCat, a multi-type automation consortium of 90

online and 111 union listing libraries. Through this

interlibrary loan system, our library is able to borrow

resources from libraries across Illinois. Materials that

are available for borrowing are magazines, individual

book titles, or collections of books. Keep in mind that

when borrowing a book from another library, the wait

time is anywhere from two days to two weeks. Look for the

PrairieCat Icon on your desktop. Through this program,

you can search for and obtain books from other schools.

It is essential that we take care of and be responsible

 for the books we borrow.
