· The Alamo was once known as Mission San Antonio de Valero.
· Was established in 1718
· Was the first of five Spanish missions in order to get Indians to become Christian
· People who were present: William Travis, Davie Crockett, Jim Bowie and Sam Houston

The battle at The Alamo (1836) played a big role in the Revolution of Texas against Mexico.. Although the east side of the continent had gained its  independence from England, Texas still was owned by Mexico. This future state was, at the time, a barren, deserted, mountainous area.
