4th Grade Newsletters - April
Soon we will begin our last unit of extended text with the book, Number the Stars. This book will be an introduction to the Holocaust for our students. We will review all of the reading strategies that we have learned this year. As a friendly reminder, your child should be reading at least 30 minutes at home on a regular basis to reinforce their skills.
We are currently studying measurement and practicing making conversions between different metric and standard units. In addition, we are studying lines, angles, and geometric shapes. The expectation is for fourth graders to master their multiplication and division facts by the end of the year. Please have your child practice their math facts on Reflex or using flashcards at home on a daily basis.
As our classes complete different writing projects, we will continue to incorporate the traits of good writing, like sentence fluency and strong voice. We are currently focusing on responding to reading different fiction and nonfiction texts by finding and explaining text evidence to support our writing. This is a great application of their skills as readers and writers and builds higher order thinking skills to explain why they chose a specific answer.

Mark your calendars- our State Float Fair will be Wednesday, May 15 from 10:30-11:30! The students are working hard to gather research about their states and will be bringing home their packet soon to begin working on their floats. We will also be finishing our study of the Southwest and West regions.
