First Grade Newsletter
Week of November 4, 2019
Literacy
Our new topic in Ready Gen focuses on becoming a classroom citizen. Students will focus on determining the central message and key details while reading. Students will practice retelling the central message and key details in a story. The writing focus will be opinion. Please practice these skills with your student while reading together.
Please remember the reading homework is 15 minutes of reading five days a week.
Phonics
This week, we will focus on x after a short vowel as in six, and short i as in tip.
Phonics Words to Practice
The phonics skills to practice are on the reverse side of the newsletter. Keep this list at home to practice reading and spelling these words with your student. Students will be assessed on these words next week.
Tricky Words of the Month

Math
This week we will start topic 4. This topic focuses on subtraction facts to 20. Please have your student return the attached math fact homework with their name on it by Thursday.
Reminders
Just a reminder it is parent teacher conferences week. Wednesday is a normal schedule with 1:45 dismissal. Thursday is 11:30 dismissal with no lunch served. Friday is a no school day.
