Reading

We are excited to explore Unit 3, Module A & B of ReadyGen.  This module focuses on understanding that different types of texts can be used to analyze similar topics and ideas.  We will be discussing natural phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. As a friendly reminder, fourth graders need to stack 10 more book towers (index cards) by March 20th to attend the electronics party.

Math

We are currently adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers in math.  Students are learning how to add and subtract using number lines, estimation and regrouping.  Adding and subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping can be quite complex, so students need to check their work before turning it in.  Please have your child practice their math facts online using Reflex or with flashcards at home on a daily basis.

Writing

 In Unit 3 of ReadyGen Writing, students will be creating an opinion essay as our next performance-based assessment.  We will use mentor texts from reading to determine which text better describes the effects of earthquakes.

Science/ Social Studies

In science we are working on body systems, forces and weather (each class focuses on a different topic due to supplies). In Social Studies, some classrooms are finishing up the Southeast, while others are beginning to study the Southwest region.
