Week of February 24, 2020

Literacy

We will wrap up the story: Hunter’s Money Jar. Students will understand that they can learn lessons through the characters and events in stories.

Please remember the reading homework is 15 minutes of reading five days a week. It is very important to remember to log your child’s reading minutes and turn in the monthly reading log at the end of each month.

Phonics

This week our phonics review sounds will be: o_e (for example in the word note) inflected -ed ending and Magic “e”.

Phonics Words to Practice

Attached is a list of words for the week that apply to the skill we are working on. Keep this list at home in the same place and make a collection of these lists to continue practicing reading and spelling these words with your child to improve reading fluency.

Tricky Words of the Month

puts, work, under, are, now, old, together, food, her

Math

We will continue Topic 9 on comparing two-digit numbers using the symbols:  <, > and =. Students will also compare numbers on a number line.

Thank you for remembering that math homework attached to the newsletter is due the Friday of that week. Please make sure your child’s name is on it when you turn it in.

Important:

Please remember to send your child with gloves and a hat for the unpredictable weather.  Also, if your child has tie shoes, please try to practice tying shoes at home so that when your child changes his/her shoes into gym shoes or boots it makes it a much easier transition for them.
