We can’t believe it’s almost the end of the third quarter!  We have so much to still learn before the end of the year!

Reading

We are currently working on Unit 3 in our ReadyGen curriculum.  This unit is science based. We have been reading books on the solar system and space.  The students have been really excited about this topic. The skills we will work on will be the main idea and key details, theme, figurative language, cause and effect, visualizations and imagery. We are also working on a science narrative and then we will create another informative essay.  We continue to respond to text daily and support our ideas with text evidence. Please ask your child what they are learning about in ReadyGen.

Math

In Math, the fifth graders are currently working on Topic 10, which is finding the volume of geometric shapes.  After spring break, we will begin Topic 11, which is converting between measurements for length, weight, and capacity.  Please continue working at home on Reflexmath.com to help with memorizing math facts.

Social Studies

In Social Studies, we are in chapter 12, which is about the industrial revolution.  We will soon begin discussing the Civil War and getting ready for a great field trip in May to Midway Village for a Civil War Days event.  The students are working on Google Classroom to submit different projects, graphic organizers, watch videos, and much more. It is a great experience using this technology!

Science

In Science, we are still working on our next units, which are matter and chemical reactions.  Two classes are working on matter and two on chemical reactions. When we complete these units, we will switch. There will be some great hands-on experiments that students can do to show how the states of matter can change between solid, liquid, and gas and some experiments to observe chemical reactions. We are learning about space in our Readygen curriculum as well.  Ask your child what their favorite part of our science unit has been!

Thank you for all of your support.  Have a great Spring Break!
