It was a terrific first week of school. The students are becoming pros at using their lockers and locating their classrooms. Each week the grade level teams and our Encore/PE department put together a newsletter to keep families informed of class happenings. Please take time to review these newsletters each week and see what is happening in your students' classes. These can be great discussion starters with your middle schooler.
We are looking forward to meeting the parents/guardians this Monday, August 22nd at Curriculum Night. Curriculum Night will begin at 6:30pm in the main gym for a brief overview of the night and end at 8:11pm. Please see the Curriculum Night Overview for the evening’s schedule. At Curriculum Night, parents will be given a packet with the schedule and rotate through their student’s schedule. Each class will last 8 minutes. During the 8 minute presentation teachers will give an overview of their curriculum for the year. We will have announcements to let parents know when to move to their next class. We are asking that parents ONLY bring their GKMS student to Open House due to seating capacity in classrooms. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open during Curriculum Night. Next week your student will take the MAP Growth Assessment(Spanish). They will take the MAP Reading Growth Assessment on Monday, August 22nd, and the MAP Math Growth Assessment on Tuesday, August 23rd. All students take three MAP Growth Assessments throughout the year; fall, winter, and spring. The MAP Growth Assessment will allow us to measure your student’s growth throughout the year and help inform and guide our instruction. As with all days, please remind your student to get plenty of rest and have a healthy breakfast so they can do their best every day. Students will also take a self screener next week, please see the attached information.
