First Grade Newsletter
Week of January 6, 2020
Literacy
Students will recognize key details and illustrations in texts to demonstrate main ideas and central messages. Students will also compare and contrast experiences and understand that children contribute to a global classroom community. Please practice these skills with your student while reading together.
Please remember the reading homework is 15 minutes of reading five days a week.
Phonics
This week we will continue to focus on -s and -ing as inflected endings and short e as in bet. We will also focus on beginning and ending blends such as sl-, cl-, and -ss, -ll and -ck.
Phonics Words to Practice
The phonics skills are short e, u and inflected endings -s, -ing and beginning and final blends. Keep this list at home to practice reading and spelling these words with your student.

Math
We will conclude topic 6: represent and interpret data and begin topic 7. Please have your student return the attached math fact homework with their name on it.
Reminders
Lunch Money - Please check and pay your child’s lunch money balance.
Please make sure your student has a hat, coat and gloves with them at school for outdoor play. An extra set of gloves and socks to keep in their locker is a good idea.
