First Grade Newsletter
Week of November 25, 2019
Literacy
We will continue to focus on becoming a classroom citizen in reading. Students will focus on determining the central message and key details while reading. Students will practice retelling the central message and key details in a story. Students will be creating opinion writing. Please practice these skills with your student while reading together.
Please remember the reading homework is 15 minutes of reading five days a week.
Phonics
This week we will continue to focus on s as a plural as in cats and short o as in top.
Phonics Words to Practice
The phonics skills to practice are on the reverse side of the newsletter. Keep this list at home to practice reading and spelling these words with your student. Students will complete a dictation with short o and plural s by Tuesday.
Tricky Words of the Month

Math
We will continue with topic 5. This topic focuses on working with addition and subtraction equations.. Please have your student return the attached math fact homework with their name on it by Tuesday.
Reminders
Please make sure your student has a hat coat and gloves with them at school for outdoor play. Sometimes temperatures can drop during the day. We will not have school November 26, 27, or 28 to observe the Thanksgiving holiday.
