Week of May 24, 2021

Important Information

  • The last day of school for students is June 7.

  • This week we are going to start keeping chromebooks at school. Please send the chromebook to school with the charger. We will keep it at school when it is returned with the charger.

  • We are going to start collecting hot spots. If your student has a hot spot please send it  back to school.

  • This is the last week that we are going to send homework this school year.

  • If your student is getting breakfast they must pick it up on the way to class from the cafeteria. If they are getting lunch they should let their teacher know during  lunch count.

  • Please make sure your student has clothing appropriate for outdoor play. Sometimes it helps to have your student dress in layers because we can have temperature changes throughout the day.

  • Remember we are here to help with your student’s progress. You can contact your student’s teacher at any time using See Saw, email, or phone call. In addition your student’s teacher is available to students and parents using a scheduled google meet from 2-2:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Parents may ask to have their student meet with their teacher at this time or the teacher may request to meet with a student at this time if the student is available. An example for the use of this time might be a scheduled meet to connect with a quarantined student.

  • Continue to check SeeSaw for teacher updates.

Our learning focus this week

 Literacy

We will continue  reading fiction and nonfiction texts about different cultures. We are working on retelling, text connections, comparing and contrasting, compound words, and understanding unknown words. Remember to read with your student at home. Students who read at home are more confident in their reading skills.

Phonics/Grammar

This week we will practice reading and spelling with these sounds:

-ing/-ed/-oo

Racing, raced, foot

Syllables and compound words

Tricky Words of the Week

Please practice the top 100 fry words list. When your student feels confident in knowing these words automatically move on to the second list of 100 words. This will help your student to be a more confident and fluent reader.

Math

We are working on telling time, identifying/sorting shapes, and fractions.  Please continue to practice math addition and subtraction facts at home. Math fact fluency is an important skill for confidence in math. Fluency means the student knows their math facts quickly and automatically.
