First Grade Newsletter
Week of January 3, 2022
Literacy
In ReadyGen we are focusing on characters, setting, and retelling events. Students are also learning the difference between fiction and non-fiction reading material. Vocabulary and parts of speech (nouns, proper nouns, and verbs) are essential parts of our lessons. We will begin to focus on contraction words.
Phonics

Long "i-e" (bite, time, ripe)
Tricky Words of the Week
We will begin to focus on our third quarter tricky words. Remember to have your student continue to practice the first 50 tricky words.

Math
This week we will finish topic 6- graphing and we will begin topic 7- extending a counting sequence. Our focus fact is +12.
Reminders
Student school hours are 8:00-2:50 each day.
Please send two snacks to school with your student each day.
Please send your child to school with a spill proof water bottle each day.
Our classrooms can be cool. Please send a sweatshirt with your student.
Temps are cooler please send gloves, hats and a warm jacket for outdoor play. Students need snow boots, snow pants and gloves to play in the snow. If they forget these items they are asked to play on the blacktop.

If your child is sick or there is a change of transportation, you must call the office.
Please have your student return the attached homework by next Monday.
