First Grade Newsletter
Week of December 6, 2021
Literacy
In ReadyGen we are focusing on characters, setting, and retelling events. Students are also learning the difference between fiction and non-fiction reading material. Vocabulary and parts of speech (nouns, proper nouns, and verbs) are essential parts of our lessons. We will begin to focus on contraction words.
Phonics
Focus:
long "a-e" cake, rake, wake
Tricky Words of the Week
Continue to practice reading, writing, and spelling the first 50 fry words this week. We will be testing these words this week. We will start our next set of fry words next week.
Focus Words:
(Review of “w” sight words we already covered)
was, with, words, what, we, were, when, which
Math
We will begin math topic 5 addition and subtraction equations to 20. Our next topic will be graphing. Our focus facts are -10 and addition to 20 starting with +11.
Reminders
Student school hours are 8:00-2:50 each day.
Please send two snacks to school with your student each day.
Please send your child to school with a spill proof water bottle each day.
Our classrooms can be cool. Please send a sweatshirt with your student.
Temps are cooler please send gloves, hats and a warm jacket for outdoor play.
Please continue to check Seesaw throughout the week for messages.
If your child is sick or there is a change of transportation, you must call the office.
Please have your student return the attached homework by next Monday.
Winter break is begins on December 20th and ends on January 3rd
