Read for a Lifetime is a statewide reading program that targets high school students. This initiative promotes the enjoyment of reading by encouraging students to read both classic and contemporary literature and rewards them for their efforts. By participating in the program, students develop a love of books and reading that will last a lifetime.

Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias invites students in grades 4‐12 to enter Letters About Literature, a statewide reading and writing competition offered by the Illinois State Library’s Illinois Center for the Book.

Visit Donors Choose Project Fall 2025 to check out the latest library grant to help GKHS, the library support staff, and students by purchasing resources for them. Our current grant focuses on tech-free games to promote students' social emotional well-being , face to face social interaction, and staying phone-free during their time in the library.
