Recently, the Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD) awarded its 2024 Middle School Professional of the Year to Tiffany Thurlby, GKMS Physical Education teacher!
Serving as the president of the northern district, Mrs. Thurlby’s influence extends beyond the GK community. Her journey to this award was marked by dedication and service, having served as the president-elect in the preceding year, demonstrating her commitment to the betterment of physical education standards and practices. She has committed many years of presenting in the IAHPERD organization, sharing lesson ideas with other professionals in the profession and becoming National Board Certified. At GK she goes above and beyond by offering CPR training for coaches, staff and students, by equipping them with essential life-saving skills. She has even taken on the yearbook club this year with Mrs. Hulseberg!
In celebrating the achievements of this exemplary middle school teacher, IAHPERD not only honors her individual accomplishments but also shines a spotlight on the vital role that educators play in shaping the future generation. As she continues to inspire and empower the next generation, her dedication serves as a reminder of the excellence within the field of physical education! Mrs. Thurlby will be honored with this award in December of 2024. Congratulations!!
