Genoa-Kingston School District Welcomes New Student Board Member for the 2026-27 School Year

Genoa-Kingston School District is proud to announce the selection of its new Student Board Member, Emma James, for the 2026-27 school year. A lifelong Genoa-Kingston student, Emma will serve as the voice of students, helping connect the Board of Education and administration with the student body while representing student perspectives on important district matters.

James shared that the opportunity to create meaningful change in the community was the biggest motivation for applying. “I’ve attended Genoa-Kingston schools my entire life, so I have a lot of love for and understanding of the district,” she said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to create a better school environment for all students.”

During the upcoming school year, James hopes to increase diversity within the Student Advisory Committee and encourage greater student involvement in athletics, clubs, and academic enrichment opportunities at Genoa-Kingston High School. She believes participation in extracurricular activities helps improve attendance, build school spirit, and give students a stronger sense of purpose and belonging.

When reflecting on the district’s mission statement, James emphasized the importance of providing students with the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. As a student-athlete, she expressed appreciation for the many academic and extracurricular opportunities available at Genoa-Kingston, noting that these experiences help students discover their passions and strengthen their connection to the school community.

Looking ahead, James would also like to create new traditions that bring students together across grade levels. One idea includes having high school students welcome younger students back to school by decorating elementary sidewalks with uplifting messages and fun drawings on the first day of school.

A fun fact about Genoa-Kingston’s newest Student Board Member: before becoming a cross country and track athlete, James was a ballet dancer for nearly 10 years.

Genoa-Kingston School District congratulates Emma on this exciting leadership opportunity and we look forward to the positive impact she will make in the year ahead.
