Genoa, IL -  In a world that is constantly changing with tech advancements, it is important we prepare the next generation of leaders. Our elementary schools are now offering Encore/STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs.  Mrs. Wagner and Mr. Anderson are teaching the programs, and in a short period of time have impacted on our students, by nurturing a love for hands-on learning and collaboration between peers.

“Students are excited when we come into the classroom and are loving the hands-on activities,” said Mrs. Wagner.

At Genoa Elementary School (GES), students have worked on projects like experimenting with chemical reactions using baking soda and mentos and constructing water filtration systems. To visiting Mr. Perry’s pond and learning about ecosystems.

“We took all of the fifth grade classes to Mr. Perry’s pond and they filled out a sheet on all of the biotic factors they saw at the pond,” said Mr. Anderson.

Looking into the future, the program hopes to start a STEM club this January and enter into a couple competitions through the Illinois inventors program.
