Students Serve Up Success with Weekly Coffee for Staff!
In an innovative approach to real-world business experiences students are learning how to run and operate a school-based coffee shop. Every Friday morning, the main hallway of GKHS is filled with the enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Students are taking on the role of baristas and learning how to manage and operate a coffee shop for school staff. From taking inventory, to pricing products and creating seasonal drinks, students are learning how to operate a small business.

This week at Genoa-Kingston Middle School students are learning how to use AEDs and give CPR! They recapped these skills with a visit from the American Heart Association. They played games and learned more about the heart!
Any Middle or High School student interested in taking CPR training can sign up through Mrs. Thurlby, Middle School Physical Education Teacher, for $20 a student.
Students can pick one of the following session dates:
- Wednesday, February 19 | 3:00-6:00 PM
- Monday, March 3 | 3:00-6:00 PM
- Thursday, March 6 | 3:00-6:00 PM
Students can pick up a form with more information from Mrs. Thurlby at GKMS or Ms. D'Amato at GKHS.
Due to the canceled school day we had on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, we will use Thursday, May 29, 2025 as a make up day. Students last attendance day will now be on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Our Middle School eSports Club crushed their 5-hour Minecraft Marathon fundraiser, raising nearly $800 in pledges! 🏆👏 Thank you to everyone who donated and cheered them on!

Our 5th graders are getting creative in their STEM encore class! 🔧✨ They’re teaming up to design and build prosthetic legs for Revolutionary War soldiers—combining science, history and teamwork in one awesome project.
Today in AP Human Geography, students used crafting beads to illustrate ways that either race or ethnicity help to determine how some states and nations are formed as an intro to their Unit 4 study!
Our preschoolers went on a wild adventure today—safari-themed yoga! From stretching like giraffes to boat poses, they had a roaring good time! 🦒🐾
🎉 Big congrats to Lydia Nelsen and Brynne Vermillion for hitting all the right notes and making it to STATE for choir! Representing the high school and middle school, they’ll be shining on stage at the state festival later this month.
Let’s give them a huge round of applause and cheer them on as they showcase their amazing talent!!
Congratulations to Genoa-Kingston FFA Parli Pro team! Back in December they competed, won and will be moving on to the district competition! Good luck!!
What is Parli Pro? Parliamentary procedure is a team leadership development event where the students run a mock meeting for 11 minutes, demonstrating their knowledge of parliamentary procedure. They have to make a motion, do discussions, attempt to dispose of the motion and then after the demonstration answer questions about the rules of parliamentary procedure. They also take a written exam!
The GKHS & MS Impact Clubs joined forces with the GK School District, Dekalb County Marines Toy Drive and Rooted for Good for an incredible toy drive! 🎁 Last night, they worked together to organize the donations at the Food Hub!
Holiday festivities are in full swing! Today, KES first graders had a blast with creative activities like building marshmallow and toothpick structures. They also decorated delicious sugar cookies and crafted festive Christmas trees using waffle cones, frosting and sprinkles. What a fun way to kick off the final days before break!
