So many firsts… and a couple of lasts 💛

Our Kindergarten Round-Up was filled with excitement as our newest students start many firsts on their journey at GK. Standing beside them, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Benzinger, who have spent years creating those unforgettable firsts for so many—now experiencing a season of lasts as they approach their final months before retirement.

All after school activities and practices are canceled for today, Monday, March 16, 2026.

No School - Monday, March 16, 2026. Tomorrow, Monday, March 16, 2026 all schools will be closed due to the winter storm. This will be made up on Thursday, May 28, 2026 (a scheduled emergency day).

Due to the power outage across town the school district will be using a 2-hour delayed start to school.
All bus routes will be delayed by two hours and the following changes will occur:
- The morning Early Childhood and PreK classes at KES would be canceled.
- For those high school students enrolled in second session KEC, parents could choose to transport them, or a bus would be provided at approximately 10:30 AM.
- Breakfast will not be served on delayed mornings.

Student leaders in action! 👏 Members of the Student Advisory Committee from GKHS recently visited GKMS to speak with 8th grade students about the committee. The members shared how students help represent their peers, work directly with school leadership, and make a real impact on school decisions. They also talked about some of the projects they have already completed this year, upcoming plans, and how future students can get involved once they arrive at GKHS.

We’re excited to see the next generation of student leaders and look forward to welcoming many of these 8th graders to Student Advisory in the future! 🎓

The GKMS Esports Team is officially in gear! They are thrilled to kick off their 2026 Rocket League season in the Play VS league. These Esports athletes have been working hard to hone our air dribbles, aerial goals, and teamwork!

The GES Kindness Squad had a busy morning on Friday! We created motivational posters to hang around the school in preparation for state testing. Then they made rounds with their Kindness Cart to surprise staff members with treats. It was a wonderful morning spent spreading kindness!

A huge congratulations to all of our students who competed in the district-level spelling bee in January—your hard work, courage, and dedication were on full display! 🐝📚 A special thank-you to the Lions Club for sponsoring the district competition and for generously providing food and awards for our students—we truly appreciate your support of our learners!

Best of luck to Brayden and Colin who are competing in the county-wide spelling bee this weekend—we’re cheering you on and so proud of you! 🌟

GKHS Impact Club made Valentines for State Representative Tony McCombie’s Valentines for Seniors program! These cards were delivered last week!

Students at GKHS attended a windy city bulls game that was a part of their education day! Students met with Chicago Bulls Executives for a panel discussion and learned what it is like to work in the professional sports world.

Our culinary arts students whipped up something truly impressive - homemade chocolate soufflés!! Light, rich and beautifully crafted.

Cogs of the Quarter are selected for being an exemplary student and role model for their peers.

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026 there will be a Board of Education Meeting. This meeting will begin at 6:30PM. If the meeting begins in closed session, the regularly scheduled meeting will begin immediately following the closed session.
